
Vehicle Data Information (VDI): Real-Time Vehicle Intelligence Platform
Vehicle Data Information (VDI) is a high-performance vehicle intelligence platform I founded and engineered to compete directly with industry incumbents like HPI. The platform provides instant, data-driven insights into vehicle history, MOT records, and live market valuations. By architecting an API-first system that aggregates data from authoritative sources like the DVLA, I built a tool that delivers the same mission-critical data as major competitors but with a modern, React-powered user experience and a more transparent pricing model.

The Challenge
Competing in the vehicle data sector requires handling vast amounts of real-time information with zero margin for error. Key technical challenges included:
Real-Time Data Aggregation: Orchestrating complex API calls to the DVLA and third-party data partners to return comprehensive vehicle reports in seconds.
Complex Data Mapping: Transforming raw, fragmented vehicle data—including MOT histories, advisory notices, and technical specifications—into a clean, readable format for end-users.
Valuation Logic: Implementing an engine that calculates accurate market values based on live variables such as mileage, condition, and current market trends.
Administrative Oversight: Building a secure, separate backend to manage high volumes of checks, monitor API health, and handle customer accounts without compromising the speed of the public storefront.
The Solution
I developed a decoupled architecture consisting of a high-speed React frontend and a dedicated administrative backend to ensure scalability and performance.
API-Driven Intelligence The platform is built on a "headless" philosophy. The React frontend interacts with a robust REST API that fetches real-time data from the DVLA. This ensures that users are always looking at the most current tax, SORN, and MOT status available.
Custom Admin Control Center (VDI Admin) To manage the platform, I engineered a bespoke administrative dashboard. This backend area gives me full visibility into the system’s operations, allowing for the monitoring of check volumes, management of data partner credits, and oversight of the user-facing storefront’s performance.
Sophisticated MOT & History Reporting I designed the reporting engine to do more than just display data; it interprets it. The system highlights pass/fail trends, tracks mileage discrepancies across test intervals, and flags outstanding safety recalls—providing users with a complete digital biography of any vehicle.
Transparent Pricing Architecture Unlike subscription-heavy incumbents, I engineered a "pay-per-check" model. The system manages transaction logic securely, ensuring that data is only fetched and billed when a user initiates a check, keeping operational costs low and user trust high.

For Admins: A dedicated management portal to track platform health, audit vehicle check logs, and manage service integrations.
